You Can't Prevent a CO Leak.
But Now You Can Ensure Your Family Walks Out Hours Before Danger.
Unlike 99% of detectors, TrueDetect alarms hours before CO reaches dangerous levels - when you're still clear-headed enough to evacuate the house.
On a mission to raise awareness about CO detectors' failure, and protect the people we love. Backed by a team of safety experts, doctors, and engineers.
Your CO Detector Was Never Truly Designed To Save You
Here's what the research says, and why it matters for you and your family:
Children's bodies are smaller and breathe faster. A child absorbs up to 3x more than an adult in the same room. At a CO concentration where an adult gets a slight headache, children can already lose consciousness. But the CO alarm threshold was designed for the average adult. Not a child. That's why the CDC reports that children under the age of 9 have the highest rate of carbon monoxide poisoning fatality. Most are found in their bed, while their detector hasn't gone off.
CDC Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Data; Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care
A standard CO detector set to the minimum 70 PPM threshold can sit at 69 PPM for days and never make a sound. So your family can be breathing CO at levels which can kill within a few hours, without ever knowing. In fact, just 4 hours at 30 PPM is more dangerous than one hour at 70 PPM. Which means the current 70PPM legal minimum is absolutely useless.
CDC Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Data; Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care
The 70 PPM standard wasn't written by doctors or public health officials. It was written in response to an atmospheric temperature inversion that happened in Chicago and Los Angeles from 1992-1995 and caused a wave of nuisance alarms. Emergency crews and gas companies were overwhelmed. So UL raised the alarm threshold to stop the phone from ringing. And detector manufacturers exploited it and lobbied to not update that standard, it hasn't been updated since. Canada's CSA 6.19 standard uses the same 70 PPM alarm point.
NCOAA Petition to CPSC, December 17, 2024; CSA 6.19 alarm requirements
In the US alone, over 100,000 people are poisoned by CO every year. Most of them had a detector. In Canada, carbon monoxide is linked to an estimated 300 deaths and 200 hospitalizations every year. A peer-reviewed study tested 30 of the most common home detectors and found a 57% overall failure rate, including 40% that failed unsafe. Meaning they never alarmed at all, not even at 70 PPM. Because in this industry, there is no meaningful enforcement, no post-sale testing, and no accountability. So some manufacturers don't even build to the minimum standard and still get away with it.

Unlike the US, Europe has updated its CO detector standard 8 times since 1992. The UK requires monitoring at 10 PPM, and alarm at 30 PPM. Other countries followed. The results? If we just take the UK as an example: The UK has 2000 CO poisoning cases a year, the US has 100,000. So while the US population is just 5x bigger, its CO poisoning rates are 50x bigger.
EN 50291 European CO Alarm Standard Revision History; UK Health Security Agency CO Data;
Health Canada's residential indoor air quality guideline sets the maximum carbon monoxide exposure at 25 PPM averaged over 1 hour, and 10 PPM averaged over 24 hours. Yet under the CSA 6.19 standard, a standard alarm is designed not to sound at a constant 30 PPM for 30 days. And at 70 PPM, it can take between 60 and 240 minutes to go off. The standard itself states that these devices "are not intended to provide an alarm signal during long-term, low-level CO exposures."

You can't prevent a CO leak.
But you can make sure your family will walk out unharmed.
TrueDetect is the only CO detector that doesn't wait for CO to become life-threatening. It catches it when it's still a whisper, and makes sure every phone in your home screams before it becomes a crisis.
85% of CO poisoning victims had no issues in their appliances beforehand.
Most people assume CO poisoning requires an obviously broken or old appliance. It doesn't.
New, well-maintained appliances can develop hairline cracks that even inspections can't check. And appliances can develop faults the day after an inspection.
CO leaks are unexpected. A furnace can run perfectly for 6 years and suddenly develop a crack overnight. A flue can shift in a cold snap. A burner can come out of a service slightly out of tune and nobody notices.
The families who end up in emergency rooms weren't negligent. They had a yearly inspection, they bought reliable appliances. They did everything right.
They just didn't have a detector that could tell them what was happening before it was too late.
And in Canada, the risk peaks when your furnace works hardest. Health Canada warns that CO risk is highest during the cold months, because most homes in Canada are heated by fuel-burning appliances. Accidental CO deaths peak in December and January. And in Ontario, over 65% of CO-related injuries and deaths happen at home.

Victims and associations have been fighting to change the law for years.
Doctors, lawyers, federal lawmakers, environmental advocacy organizations, and survivor associations have all formally demanded that the US government update the CO alarm standard. The standard still hasn't moved.

NCOAA & Earthjustice — Petition to the CPSC
December 2024
The National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association, represented by Earthjustice, formally petitioned the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to lower alarm thresholds and mandate accurate digital displays.
US Congress — The Nicholas and Zachary Burt Memorial CO Poisoning Prevention Act
Introduced 2021, US Senate Bill S.351
Named after two brothers killed by CO poisoning in their sleep. It referenced research showing that proper detector placement and alarm threshold near sleeping areas could prevent the majority of CO fatalities. It passed the Senate. It stalled in the House. Families are still waiting.
CPSC — UL 2034 Standards Technical Panel Meeting Log
January 13, 2025
An official meeting log from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission discussing proposed changes to UL 2034 - including lowering display thresholds below 30 PPM. The meeting confirms that regulators are actively aware the current standard is inadequate, and that the industry resistance remains the primary obstacle to change.
What Happens To Your Body At Every CO Level Below 70 PPM
Based on peer-reviewed exposure data from the CDC, NIOSH, and the World Health Organization.
0-15 PPM
CO starts getting into your blood, displacing oxygen. You feel slightly foggy and tired. Nothing big.
16-29 PPM
Headaches. Fatigue. Strong brain fog. You think you're getting sick. Your children already are and they want to go to bed.
30-50 PPM
Confusion. Nausea. Slowed reactions. Your body knows something is wrong but your brain can no longer process what. Young children and the elderly often lose consciousness in this range.
51-69 PPM
You feel severely drunk. Disoriented. You can barely keep your eyes open. Most people at this point cannot think clearly enough or move well enough to evacuate. And their kids are already unconscious, but they can barely get out themselves, let alone get their kids out. That's what happens to most adults, especially those with lower body weight.
70 PPM
Your detector alarms.
If you have TrueDetect, you'll see CO building on the screen and get notifications to your phone at just 1-29 PPM - days before it becomes dangerous. And at 30 PPM, your alarm will go off. Hours before the real symptoms. Before the confusion. Before the exhaustion. Before your kids lose consciousness. While you can still get everyone out.
The First CO Detector Built to Save You. Not Just to Meet the Minimum.
Alarms at 30 PPM, Not 70
Every standard detector is legally built to stay silent until CO reaches 70 PPM. TrueDetect alarms at 30 - where real damage begins. That's hours before danger. Hours your family is still clear-headed enough to get out.
Live Display Starting at 1 PPM
Standard detectors show nothing. Even the ones with a display can't read levels below 30 PPM. TrueDetect shows exact CO levels from 1 PPM, so you can see a slow buildup weeks before it becomes an emergency, when it just makes you feel off.
Alerts Every Phone in Your Home
The moment low levels of CO start climbing, TrueDetect sends your phone a notification - telling you what the CO level means and what to do. And in an emergency, at 30 PPM, it triggers an emergency alarm on every phone in the house. Even on silent/sleep mode.
10-Year Life.
Standard detectors quietly expire after 5 years. Which is why 30% of households unknowingly own detectors that already expired. TrueDetect lasts 10 years, and sends you a notification once it expires. So you're never unknowingly unprotected.

57% of the 30 most common home CO detectors failed in peer-reviewed testing
Your current detector was built to the legal minimum, 70 PPM. A standard detector can sit at 69 PPM forever and never make a sound. But just a couple of hours at these levels can kill you.
Children absorb CO up to 3x faster than adults. The 70 PPM legal standard was never designed for them
Other countries updated the standards. But the US standard was set in 1992, and hasn't been updated since - and Canada's CSA 6.19 standard uses the same 70 PPM alarm point. Don't wait for them
In the US alone, over 100,000 people are CO poisoned every year. Most had a detector.
Associations, lawyers, and federal lawmakers have formally petitioned to update the standard. It still hasn't moved. You need to act for your own family.
Like 30% of households, you may unknowingly have a CO detector that has already expired, so you might as well switch to a detector that actually protects you.
Olyra specifically specializes in improving safety devices to provide real safety for families. And TrueDetect is our biggest achievement yet.
TrueDetect was built on electrochemical sensor technology - the most accurate CO detection method available for residential use.

Got CO Poisoned Because My Detector Failed. Never Again.
Was CO poisoned two years ago. I was lucky that my wife got back home and found me. My detector certainly didn't beep. Bought TrueDetect the same week. This is the only one that can give me peace of mind after what happened. And I thought to write this review now, because I hate to think that some people will wait until it happens. Don't be that person. Especially if you have kids, don't rely on luck. Get your home protected.

Bought It For My Parents
My dad's 74 and my mom has heart issues so I wasn't taking any chances. The app is the best part for me — I get the alerts on my phone too so I can keep an eye on their house without calling them every day. Worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

Saved my life!
This thing literally saved my life. I had a headache and my son felt sick for an hour and then TrueDetect alarmed. We quickly exited the home. My old detector? It was still on the wall but never made a damn sound. If I didn't have this, we would've gone to sleep and that would've been it. Be smart and get your home protected as well.

I experienced what 70 PPM is like, so this detector was a godsend
I survived CO poisoning in 2019. Spent 3 days in the hospital and had neurological symptoms for months after. The difference between 30 PPM and 70 PPM is not a small thing. I experienced it. I literally tell everyone I know to get this detector. Until the stupid government updates the safety standards this is the only one you can trust.

The only one I recommend as an HVAC
I recommend this at almost every house I service. That's the only one that I can actually say gives you 100% safety. Nothing beats it. Some people push back on the price, but it lasts twice as long as a $40 detector… so it's actually not more expensive.

The Phone Notification Saved My Life Days Before.
I just had a slight headache one afternoon. Then my phone sent a notification saying CO levels in my house were at 13 PPM and marked it unhealthy. Called an HVAC tech the same day. He found a leak and told me it could have slowly poisoned me for weeks before it ever became acute. I didn't even know that was possible. So grateful I had this.
